Hapai Kura — Purpose and mission

Hapai Kura Clinic — Chinese Medicine Specialists Group was established with a clear purpose: to help build a recognised Chinese medicine secondary care pathway in Aotearoa New Zealand. We are the first NZ clinic and practitioners group dedicated to supporting NZ-registered CM specialists within a collective specialist practice model of Chinese Medicine. Our aim is to strengthen the connection between specialist Chinese medicine care, the wider health system, and the people who may benefit from experienced, appropriately focused specialist input.

The Specialists Group brings together the expertise of CMCNZ-registered Chinese Medicine specialists, providing a professional platform through which their clinical experience can be more readily recognised and accessed. Instead of a clinic staff directory, this website serves as a public-facing record of the specialist community. It brings together information on most of New Zealand's registered Chinese Medicine specialists, helping tangata whai ora and whānau identify appropriate expertise, while also providing colleagues in Chinese and Western medicine with a practical point of reference when specialist input or referral is required.

A central part of our vision is to develop a referral network for CM specialists, supporting appropriate professional communication and collaboration. Where a clinical situation would benefit from more than one area of expertise, colleagues may use the Group's clinical enquiry pathway to seek an MDT (MultiDisciplinary Team) discussion or specialist input. In this way, Chinese medicine secondary care can develop as a more connected and clinically considered part of contemporary healthcare, while maintaining the professional independence and distinctive knowledge of individual specialists.

Our physical base is located at 57 Killarney St, Takapuna, Auckland, which provides a practical central location for specialists and clients travelling from across Auckland. The clinic is approximately 3 minutes by car from the North Shore Bridge, while the St Joseph’s Catholic Church Bus Stop is around a 3-minute walk away. Hapai Kura clinic provides the Specialists Group with a stable clinical and professional base from which specialists can work, consult and engage with the wider community.

Looking ahead, Hapai Kura Clinic and Chinese Medicine Specialists Group will extend this role beyond individual consultations. From our physical base and through community settings, we will support CM specialist consultations, public education and community clinics, providing opportunities for people to better understand Chinese medicine and access specialist knowledge. Our broader purpose is to establish a credible, connected and professionally grounded secondary-care environment for Chinese medicine in NZ — one that serves tangata whai ora and whānau, supports colleagues across healthcare, and gives Chinese Medicine specialists a powerful significance in NZ.
